The World Health Organization (WHO) (OMS) is commited to an important global hand hygiene movement, the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands initiative, which includes a global call to action for health-care facilities.

On the occasion of the global annual initiative on 5 May 2010, all over the National Health System Health Regions and healthcare facilities are organizing activities in order to sensitize healthcare workers and citizens to the importance of hand hygiene in reducing health care-associated infection (HAI).
